Nervous about childbirth, please help?

Ohk, I’m 6 months pregnant; and as the due date keeps gettin more near, Im startin to get nervous and scared. I know this is normal, but stupid me keeps watchin labor and delivery videos on youtube and reading horror stories on websites. Can anyone please reassure me?? LoL. The doctor said i’ll be able to deliver vaginally, so a c-section, for now, is out of the question. How bad do contractions hurt? What about epidurals? An experienced mother please give me some answer and some reassurance….I dont need any smart remarks.

I was really scared when I was pregnant with my first, too. I refused to watch child birth videos, and in my youth they weren’t show in health class. I figured it was better for me not to see, so I don’t freak myself out any further. lol

But now here I am 8wks with my second baby, and I am not scared in the least. In fact, child birth was my biggest fear in life, prior to having my son 17 months ago. Contractions don’t feel good, but they are bearable. They feel like really strong period cramps, that intensify, and go down every few minutes. I personally found it more painful to walk or lay down, than to sit upright. It’s painful, but you can still walk and function well.

The epidural really doesn’t hurt very much, the doctor that came in to give me mine talked to me throughout the whole procedure and I would rate the pain maybe a 4 out of 10. After it was in for a minute, no pain at all whatsoever. Besides the pain of emberassment – I apparently had gas and could not control it, lol. I never knew when it was coming, I couldn’t feel anything! I NEVER ‘fart’ in front of people, so it was a bit awkward, but now I think it was pretty funny.

Pushing the baby out takes all of your energy trying to push at the right times. It’s exhausting, but on the bright side, it was pain free. You can feel the baby coming out sensation-wise, but it doesn’t hurt at all. Just feels like pressure.

Afterward, you may be a little sore down there, but I tore when giving birth so I needed stitches which were kind of painful. It felt more like a dull pain more than anything. If you don’t tear, I would imagine it would be a little less painful. Out of everything though, surprisingly, the contractions hurt the worst. I would have never guessed that!

Hope this helps, and good luck. Don’t forget to take advantage of the menu there, I was in heaven every morning when the breakfast lady knocked on my door to give me the breakfast menu! I always ordered waffles with whipped cream and fruit, cold cereal, a side of fruit, a juice cup and cup of hot cocoa lol.
