about birthing classes..?

I am very pregnant and nervous as can be about delivery. I lose sleep over this horrifying thought that something will go majorly wrong. I never wanted to have kids, but I had an unplanned pregnancy and with the help and support of my friends and family I am accepting the fact that I have a little princess on the way. I am only 18 and the father is not stepping up to responsibility but I am dating a wonderful guy now who is accepting both me and my child which makes everything so much easier. But this undying fear of the delivery room will not leave me alone! I have tried alot of methods to calm myself but nothing seems to work. A friend mentioned birthing classes. I am interested in this but I have never been introduced to anything like that. What do they do there? Will it help me? Whats it like and is there a limit to how far along you must be before you can go to them

You would usually take the one at your hospital. Or, at least set up to go on a tour of the hospital, so you know when you arrive what to expect there. The birthing class we took here in Chicago at my hospital was about $120, and I thought very resourceful. They went over everything that could possibly happen, how they conduct an epidural, why you would need a c-section, different positions of laboring, how many hours you are in labor and delivery before moving you to post-partum, etc. If any of those things you think will help you along, I would definitely call the hospital that you are birthing at and find out.
