Mothers who didn’t use an epidural for pain management during labor?
I’m 22 weeks pregnant and after a lot of thought, I’m going to attempt labor without an epidural. I know that a lot of women say narcotics didn’t do much to relieve the pain, but I was wondering if anyone had any other methods or any advice on what I should look into (Lamaze books or Hypnobirthing options?). Also has anyone ever had a pudendel (sp??) shot around the vaginal area right before delivery to ease pain of stretching and rips? Is it really worth it even or will I be too caught up in the moment to even THINK about the pain down there?
Lynn, I’m going for a vbac too! I blame a number of factors on why I had a c-section, epidural being one of them. It’s refreshing to know it is possible!
I had my youngest without an epidural and yes, I did use the shot around the vaginal area to ease the pain. I did just fine & would do the same again. I would suggest that you take Lamaze Classes though, the breathing truly does make a HUGE difference. My first pregnancy I didn’t and I had a c-section. The second was a totally different story. I was able to do a vaginal birth and opted NOT to have the epidural and don’t for a second regret it…you’ll do just fine honey…congrats & good luck!
